Expires:No;;036724 FXUS65 KVEF 090524 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 924 PM PST Thu Jan 8 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Cool and windy conditions through Friday with precipitation lingering in our eastern areas today. * Dry and warming conditions expected this weekend through next week as high pressure dominates. && .DISCUSSION...through Wednesday. The cold front that moved through this morning packed quite a punch, bringing widespread gusts of 35-55 mph and a quick shot of precipitation. Precipitation is now firmly in Mohave County. Some minor snow accumulations are possible above 5000 feet, but any impacts should be limited. Isolated wrap-around showers are possible (40%) this afternoon along and southeast of I-15, but precipitation chances come to an end this evening. The main story today is the wind, with widespread gusts of 40-55 mph. Winds weaken slightly tonight (enough to allow most of the Wind Advisories expire at 10PM PST) but remain elevated through Friday. The exception is the lower Colorado River Valley, where strong north winds and a Wind Advisory continue through 4PM PST Friday. In the wake of today's cold front, the airmass will be notably cooler. Low temperatures on Friday should drop into the mid-30s on the outskirts of Las Vegas and the Morongo Morongo Valley, but think the winds will stave off a freeze. However, lighter winds and clear skies Friday night may allow portions of the Las Vegas valley to reach freezing Saturday morning. Latest NBM has 40-60% chances of this occurring, so freeze headlines may be needed in subsequent forecast packages if trends continue/hold. Over the weekend, high pressure builds over the Western US, promoting dry and warming conditions. By the middle of next week, forecast highs are ~10 degrees above normal across the region. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...VFR conditions will persist through the TAF period. Gusty north winds continue through most of the TAF period with gusts 20-30 knots, generally between 330-030. Tomorrow afternoon, winds favor a more northeasterly direction and may turn past 030 at times. After sunset Friday, gusts will subside. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Gusty north winds persist across the region through tomorrow afternoon. Most locations will see their strongest winds (20-35 knots) tonight, but peak gusts in the lower Colorado River Valley (30-45 knots) take hold tomorrow.
