Updated at 1114 PM CST Wed Dec 24 2025 - Dense fog will reduce visibilities across the area each night through the weekend. This will result in hazardous travel and motorists are urged to use caution when driving. Dense marine fog will also persist through the remainder of the week. - Well above average temperatures are expected to continue through the remainder of Christmas week and into the weekend. A strong cold front brings an end to this warmth Sunday night, with cold weather products potentially being needed for Monday and Tuesday nights. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1114 PM CST Wed Dec 24 2025 An anomalously strong upper ridge anchored over the central US continues to be the dominant synoptic feature over our area through Sunday. This, along with surface high pressure directly overhead, is giving way to a warm and humid Christmas week. The primary impact we continue to monitor is the development of dense fog each night through Saturday night. Satellite imagery at issuance time shows that fog has already developed across much of the area, including over our local bays, sounds, and adjacent nearshore Gulf waters, and numerous observation sites have already dropped to a quarter mile visibility or less. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for all land areas through 11 AM. In addition, a Marine Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for all local bays and sounds, and nearshore Gulf waters out 20 NM through Noon for visibilities dropping to below 1 nautical mile. Similar to yesterday, considering that dew points today are forecast to rise into the low to mid 60s during the daytime hours, moving over water temps in the upper 50s, cannot rule out the possibility of dense sea fog lingering into the afternoon hours. We will monitor satellite/observations throughout the day and, if necessary, will extend the Marine Dense Fog Advisory. Additional advisories will likely be needed for tonight. Highs through Sunday will top out in the mid to upper 70s (low 70s along the immediate coast) and lows through Saturday night will only drop into the 50s. Climatologically speaking, these temperatures are roughly 10-15 degrees above average over coastal counties and an impressive 15-20 degrees above average for interior counties. The pattern finally begins to change by next week as a longwave trough deepens over the eastern US. This trough will help to send a strong cold front southward, sweeping through the local area sometime late Sunday night/early Monday morning. At this point, guidance suggests that the best forcing from the upper trough looks to remain well to the north of the local area. That being said, moisture pooling out ahead of the front should help to support the development of some scattered shower activity. Once the front passes through, a much colder and drier airmass filters in from the north. Temperatures early next week will plummet by roughly 20 to 30 degrees from where they were over the weekend! In fact, we may even need to consider cold weather products for Monday and Tuesday nights, with wind chills potentially dropping into the teens and lower 20s. We look to close out 2025 with highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s and 30s. A Low Risk of rip currents will be in place through the period. /96 && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1114 PM CST Wed Dec 24 2025 Dense fog continues to develop across the local region at issuance time, with many sites experiencing VLIFR conditions. Fog should remain in place through the night and into the late morning hours before dissipating sometime between 16z-18z. VFR conditions should briefly return during the afternoon hours for much of the area. However, a few localized spots of IFR or lower visibilities could linger through the afternoon along the immediate coast due to dense sea fog continuing over local area bays and sounds. Another round of dense fog should develop this evening. Calm winds this morning will become a light southwesterly flow by this afternoon. /96 && .MARINE... Issued at 1114 PM CST Wed Dec 24 2025 Dense sea fog will continue to develop each night through the remainder of the week across local area bays and sounds, as well as the nearshore Gulf waters. Light and variable winds today will become a light southwesterly flow tonight. This pattern will continue through the remainder of the week and into the weekend. /96 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
