FXUS66 KEKA 101942 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 1142 AM PST Sat Jan 10 2026 .SYNOPSIS...Cool conditions will steadily warm through late next week. The inland valleys will see night and morning low clouds and fog along more limited warming. && .DISCUSSION...High pressure is starting to build into northern California, although it remains rather flat with a weather system moving into the Pacific Northwest. This is bringing some high clouds to portions of the area today and these are generally expected to persist through the weekend. Many of the interior valleys saw low clouds this morning and these are expected to persist into early next week. It is possible some low clouds may form along the coast as well. These low clouds and temperature inversions in the valleys are expected to keep temperatures cool even though the low clouds may clear out by the late morning and afternoon. No rain is expected. Next week high pressure is expected to strengthen bringing warm air aloft. This will strengthen the valley inversions keeping fog and low clouds in many of them. This may also keep high temperatures in the colder valleys from warming too much. So have lowered the temperatures below the NBM guidance and this will need to be monitored over the next week. Dry weather will likely continue through the next week. The ensembles are hinting at some precip possibly around January 20th, but there is only a 25 chance of a hundredth of an inch. So this will need to watched as it gets closer. MKK && .AVIATION...(18Z TAFs)...VFR conditions with light winds are forecast at the terminals for the next 24 hours. Offshore flow is expected to keep the TAF sites clear overnight, but some interior valleys could still see stratus and fog. Any fog will lift and scatter shortly after sunrise. JB && .MARINE...Generally light southerly winds and mild seas are forecast today. A mid-period westerly swell fills in today and peaks around 5- 7 ft at 12 seconds, keeping the sea state elevated despite light winds. Winds could be breezy in the far northern waters with gusts of 15-20 kts possible. These winds ease Sunday, but a larger long period westerly swell fills in Sunday afternoon, peaking at around 12 ft at 16 seconds by Sunday night. Northerlies return Monday and gusts of 20-25 kts are possible in the lee of Cape Mendocino. Winds are likely to increase further by the middle of next week. JB && .BEACH HAZARDS...On Sunday, another long period westerly swell originating from a low near the Aleutians fills in at around 7 ft at 20 seconds and peaks around 12 ft at 16 seconds. A Beach Hazard Statement has been issued for this moderate sneaker wave threat late Sunday morning through Monday afternoon. Stay much farther back from the ocean and avoid steep beaches and jetties.
